Populist Movements

We have an evil, evil system. Words such as imperialism, greed, corporate greed, neoliberalism, neoconservate, globalism, bought politicians, control of media are descriptive.   There are reasons why the labor movement has collapsed.  It is the politics of neoliberalism, an out growth of corporate greed.  Given how it opposes the public weal, we have devoted a section to expose just what neoliberalism is—a thing that the five corporations which own broadcasting will not do.

Things have gotten worse, the hole the neocons has dug is much deeper.  The economic stats are worse than bad:  the trend is toward greater disparity of wealth and on top of that the U.S. is loaded with debt and imbalance of trade.  The debt can through fiscal austerity can be paid off (as some of it was under Clinton), but the trade imbalance will only grow due to the dismantling of are industrial base and the setting up of free trade agreements such as NAFTA.   The current foreign debt is equaled to over 70% of GDP, a ratio unmatched by far among industrialized nations.  To find out what economics is called the dismal science and the role of neoliberalism.

Neoliberals have cooped democracy, and at the head of this is the financial community.  Don’t be fooled by the rhetoric, the system is about profits.  It aint the words or legislation, but actions which reveals the shadow government.  As Aristotle observed:  “A democracy exists whenever those who are free and poor are in sovereign control of the government:  an oligarchy when the control lies in the hands of the rich and better born.”

To him who little is not enough, nothing will be enough--Epicurus

fish-congress-dollars-itt.jpg

crumb-fritz-cover.jpg

We peasants, artisans and others,
Enrolled amongst the sons of toil
Let's claim the earth henceforth for brothers
Drive the indolent from the soil.
On our flesh for too long has fed the raven
We've too long been the vultures prey.
But now farewell to spirit craven
The dawn brings in a brighter day.

CHORUS

No saviour from on high delivers
No trust we have in prince or peer
Our own right hand the chains must shiver
Chains of hatred, greed and fear.
Ere the thieves will out with their booty
And to all give a happier lot.
Each at his forge must do his duty
And strike the iron while its hot.

The Internationale (song)

Each person counts as one.  Organizing labor is about having a voice.   It is much more than just trying to change the conditions of employment.  It is about politics, about reform so that those who are elected place first the conditions of the masses.  It is about campaign reform so as to end the conflict of interest created when those whom they regulate are the ones who fund their elections.  It is about changing the relationship between the media and big business.  It is about the people knowing where their best interests lie.  It is about empowering the people.   It is about the quality of our existance and ethics of brotherhood.

There is an insidious program to undue the gains of the workers which they have made since the year 1900 through the agenda of neoliberalism—which is not liberal at all.  It is a program of globalization whereby banks and businesses will not be troubled by trade laws, environmental laws, borders, unions, etc.  They oppose regulations and taxes, because they diminish short-term profits.  It is a program to end state-run enterprises.  It is about selling of the resources and utilities of the country.  And it is about undoing the various government social programs such as social security, medical, free higher education, and such.  It is about the freedom to outsource jobs and do what ever else improves their profit margin.  It is about revisiting the past, the age of robber barons.  Only today the new Robber Barons are not the monopoly capitalists such as Rockefeller and Morgan and the businesses they head, but a much bigger global fish.  The business ethics hasn't changed, only the size of the board upon which they play, for now it covers our planet.

As I see it, the two most effective things that we can do to change this trend is for to have independent media, one that doesn’t promote a set of beliefs that big business wants the masses to have, and secondly to have election funding and lobbying reforms which will make them a minor player in the political process.  This will require a massive grass-roots movement.

In the pursuit of their short-term interests (neoliberal policies), they have promoted polices that have in part been adopted by out two-party system that have brought this nation on to the brink of economic collapse.   In particular there is a greater foreign debt (measured as a percentage of GDP) than was held by nations that economic crisis had defaulted upon their debt obligations.  Servicing government debt is now the second biggest item (over $800 billion) in our budget.  The manufacturing foundation of our economy has been eroded.  This has resulted in an imbalance of trade amounting to over $70 billion per month, and rising.  Since 2002 the dollar has depreciated against principle foreign currencies by over 40%--thus giving an illusion of rising gasoline prices.  This occurs, along with rising interest rates, for to keep the flow of foreign dollars in this country, so that our government can sell the new T-bills that raise funds to replace those that have matured, of which foreign nations hold $1.2 trillion.  The Euro is becoming the global currency.  Disposable income of workers has steadily dropped since 1972, even though their productivity has increased 45%.   All this has occurred to our nation while the multinational corporations have been like a foreign weed chocking out native industries.  Yes, neoliberalism is good for them, but not for our nation.

One more legacy of this push for nations without borders has been our intrusion into Iraq, for these neoliberals seeks in the Middle East for to tear down their protectionist laws, and we have sent the our army to do their bidding.  The puppet government that we have installed in Iraq (much like the Vichy government of France) is planning to have foreign oil companies take over production and sales.
